One of the contemporary trends we've talked about in class is the connections between emerging technologies and language -- how new technologies seem to affect language, both in terms of new products and tools, but also in terms of the way we use these tools, especially with regard to social media.

I don't know if one could say -- on average -- how language changes -- that would be a great question for super linguists. My educated guess is that language is both gradually evolving with societal and global change affecting it AND being impacted by major bursts of change motivated by major cultural and social events -- wars, natural disasters, human tragedies, etc.
